an invitation to brokerage firms and stock freaks

Greetings!

The Development Center for Finance is a non-stock and non-profit institution jointly established by the U.P. College of Business Administration and FINEX Research and Development Foundation. The Center is dedicated to the enhancement of the skills and knowledge of finance professionals, the development of domestic financial markets, and the improvement of financial management practice in the Philippines in general.

This September 29 and October 6, 2007 DCF is holding a seminar on the Advanced Financial Statement Analysis and Financial Reporting Issues. The seminar is divided into four major sessions:

  1. Framework for financial statement analysis and International Accounting Standards;
  2. Analysis of balance sheet accounts which includes receivables, inventory, investments including SUBPRIME, intangibles, and property, plant and equipment;
  3. Financial analysis of financial institutions and holding companies; and
  4. Financial analysis of mining companies.

The first two sessions will be discussed by Marie Therese F. Agustin. Ms. Agustin is an Associate Professor at the UP CBA. She is also a management consultant undertaking financial advisory, investment brokerage, strategic planning, and operations auditing services. Her major clients include the Asian Development Bank, Asian Finance and Investment Corporation, and Sun Hung Kai Securities (Phils.), Inc. Prof. Agustin holds a Master of Business Administration (major in Finance) degree from the University of California at Berkeley.

The third session will be discussed by Arthur Cayanan. Dr. Cayanan is Professor of Finance and Accounting at the UP CBA. He is also the Assistant Vice President for Finance of the University of the Philippines System, Investment Consultant to the UP Business Research Foundation, Inc., and former Investment Officer of the UP Foundation, Inc. He is one of the authors of the book Investment Management and the Philippine Stock Market, and the Philippine Corporate Finance. Prof Cayanan earned his PhD in Business Administration and MA Economics degrees from UP.

The session on mining companies will be discussed by Dr. Carlo A. Arcilla. Dr. Arcilla is the Director of the National Institute of Geological Sciences of the UP College of Science. He is also an Associate Professor of geology in that college. Dr. Arcilla holds a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering and geological Sciences and a Masters in Geology degrees from the University of Illinois. He has worked with some of the top mining companies in the country for several years.
